Biography

Tori is a PhD Candidate in the School of Art History at the University of St Andrews. Her primary research interest is the work of women artists in France and Britain during the ‘long’ eighteenth century. Her scholarship broadly explores women’s creative self-expression through engagement with nature. In the spring of 2021 Tori completed a master’s thesis at the University of Washington titled ‘Le pinceau à la main: The Intertwined Lives and Careers of Madeleine Françoise Basseporte and Marie-Thérèse Reboul Vien’. Her ongoing PhD project is focused solely on the work and biography of Marie-Thérèse Reboul Vien (1735-1806), an artist whose overlooked but vital presence in the origins of Neoclassicism in eighteenth-century France deems her worthy of a prominent place in the history of Western art.
